Coach, Tafia Stars of Tanzania, Charles Mkwasa
The
coach of Tanzania, Charles Boniface Mkwasa, has reviewed the Africa
Nations Cup qualifying game against Nigeria on Saturday in Dar es Salaam
giving high grades to his players. Mkwasa said the Taifa Stars lived
high above the ratings they got from pundits before the match kicked off
in the East African country.
He said, “We played against a good side
and we appreciate the result we got out of this game. I say a very big
congratulation to my players who have rewritten all stories before the
game.
“Before this match we were seen as no
team but nobody can say that anymore after the display of the Taifa
Stars. My boys did very well and they played to instruction.”
Mkwasa who is serving on a caretaker
basis, however, refused to be definite if the Tanzanians were better
than their guests through the encounter.

“We
played against one of the very best teams in Africa today. Both sides
wanted result but perhaps it turned a bit differently but then the
displays gave the fans a very good game. The Nigerians were good but I
celebrate my boys for standing up well.”
Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme from
English second-tier club Wolves made several excellent saves in Dar es
Salaam on his debut at 29. His performance was a reflection of the
several attacks the Tanzanians mounted against the several times African
champions.
Ikeme moved up the ladder after captain
Vincent Enyeama pulled out in midweek following the death of his mother.
The display of Ikeme got a resounding approval from the new Nigeria
coach, Sunday Oliseh.
“To say he had a decent outing will not
be fair. Ikeme was fantastic in goal today,” Oliseh said of his
goalkeeper who made his debut for Nigeria on a day Oliseh also made his
debut as Nigeria coach.
