Kehinde Obareh has said her target is to win gold in the boxing event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
Obareh, who defeated Tunisia’s Hilmi
Khouloud to win gold in the women’s lightweight category at the 2015 All
Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo, told our correspondent on the
telephone that her ambition was to win gold at the Olympics.
“The 2015 All Africa Games was a wonderful experience for me; one I will not forget in a long while,” the boxer said.

“Winning
gold in Congo is a dream come true for me because it was my first
outing at the All Africa Games – and it shows that I have the ability to
beat opponents in Africa.
“My dream is to win gold in the Olympic
Games next year in Brazil. I want to be an Olympic gold medallist and
not only an African champion in my weight class.”
Obareh added that the Brazzaville Games challenged her and helped bring out the best in her.
She said, “Congo really challenged me to
do better than I have been doing. I had to reach into my inner self to
win some bouts because the dream of winning gold drove me at all times.
“Boxing is really improving in Africa and
female boxers from other countries are getting tougher to beat,
especially when they hear that you are from Nigeria.
“Our coaches also made us to understand
that we have to know what was at stake at the Games and they really
helped us with the techniques and the new rules in the sport.
“When the preparations for the Olympics
begin, I will ensure that I do my best to avoid injuries and make the
Rio 2016 Olympics squad to help me achieve the dream of becoming an
Olympic champion.”
